Emirates Bank Website Top-Rated in the Middle East

Emirates Bank Group is the e-banking leader in the Middle East region. The Website of Emirates Bank, a member of the Emirates Bank Group (www.emiratesbank.ae), has taken the number one position in the ratings of Middle Eastern Banks, according to the latest Lafferty Internet Ratings (LIR), the Internet financial services benchmarking service.

The websites of 76 of the top Asian-Pacific and Middle Eastern banks were rated. Emirates Bank website was top-rated in the Middle East and ranked number 5 in the Asian Pacific and Middle Eastern regions. All the websites were rated during May 2000 for the latest issue of LIR.

According to the LIR ratings published in the June issue of Retail Banker International. Emirates Bank is the highest rated among Middle Eastern Banks. "Among Middle Eastern Banks, Emirates Bank is the highest-rated in its region. It beat 2 Israeli banks, Bank Leumi and Bank Hapoalim, and 3 other Arab Banks, National Bank of Kuwait, Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait, and Qatar National Bank. Emirates Bank offers a good level of interactivity, easy navigation and dynamic content."

Emirates Bank scored 42 points in the LIR points rating system. The ratings are based on 5 main criteria: interactivity, content, navigation, speed, and design. The maximum rating is 10 points per criterion, giving an overall total of 50 points.

This top rating follows a series of initiatives in e-banking services launched by Emirates Bank Group starting in 1996 when the group introduced the first Internet banking service (BankNET) in the region. Furthermore, EBG developed a safe payment gateway on the Internet. The 1st Internet site on which this gateway was implemented was the Dubai Shopping Festival site in March 2000. Lately, EBG signed for the implementation of the standards for issuing a Visa Smart Debit/Credit card. The first bank worldwide to have taken such initiative.

Emirates Bank Group commitment and mission is to lead the financial technological evolution in the region and meet the emerging needs of customers through the application of innovative technological initiatives. This has been instrumental in bringing many electronic banking services to the UAE and the region These services include, in addition to BankNET and the Visa Smart Debit/Credit cards mentioned earlier, being the first to launch the mobile banking service (BankGSM). The telephone banking service Bankline, as well as the first financial website in the region.
